Medical Oncology Track
The Medical Oncology Track is ideal for fellows with a strong interest in an academic career in solid tumors and/or hematologic malignancies. All fellows receive 12 months of immersive inpatient and outpatient clinical training required to single-board in Medical Oncology, followed by the option to:
• Enter directly into 2 years of academic research training
• Obtain an additional 6-month training to received dual-certification in hematology and medical oncology
During the first year, Medical Oncology Track Fellows will rotate through the following clinical services:
Clinical Training (Year 1)

Rotation Subject What to Expect Solid Tumor Inpatient Service
This intensive inpatient service provides fellows with a unique training experience for the inpatient care and chemotherapeutic management of patients with solid malignancies.
Solid Tumor Inpatient Consult Service
This consult-only service allows fellows to direct inpatient work-up of patients with known or suspected solid tumors.
Leukemia Service
Inpatient acute leukemia service. Provides comprehensive training in standard and trial chemotherapeutic regimens for newly diagnosed or relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and high-grade myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). In addition, fellows will learn the essentials of bone marrow biopsy and intrathecal chemotherapy techniques.
Myeloma, transplant, and lymphoma (MTL) Service Inpatient service dedicated to caring for patients with plasma-celldisorders, lymphomas and or who undergoing bone marrowtransplant (BMT) for malignant and non-malignant disorders.Provides immersive training in a wide spectrum of BMT techniques(including autologous, allogeneic, matched-unrelated, andhaploidentical), novel CAR-T and BiTE therapies, and experience inmanaging common complications such as GVHD, opportunisticinfections, and CRS. Palliative Care Service Immersive experience that will provide an introduction to thepractice of palliative medicine, pain and symptom management inadvanced cancer, and inpatient hospice. Clinical experiences willinclude inpatient and outpatient visits in the Sidney KimmelComprehensive Cancer Center, Palliative Clinics, and Johns HopkinsHospital.

Rotation Subject What to Expect Outpatient Solid Tumor Clinic (OPD)
This innovative outpatient clinical experience serves as the foundation for the development of a fellow mastery in the management of solid tumor patients, while rotating through disease specific blocks including Genitourinary, Upper Airway Disease, Breast/Gyn, Gastrointestinal, and more! Fellows see new and follow-up patients for both standard of care therapeutic approaches as well as clinical trial consideration with world-renowned disease-specific experts.
Medical Oncology Continuity Clinic
This weekly clinic during the first and second year provides fellows with longitudinal autonomy and targeted training in the outpatient management of solid tumors. Fellows work with a multi-disciplinary care team that includes a longitudinal faculty attending, a continuity clinic attending and a primary outpatient nurse to facilitate optimal continued management.
Hematologic Malignancy Clinic
This block-based clinic allows fellows to work weekly with our world-renowned faculty to gain longitudinal outpatient experience in varied hematologic malignancies including myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative disorders, lymphomas and myelomas.
Years 2 and beyond

Single-Board Medical Oncology Pathway. 2 Full years of highly-protected academic research time.
Double-Board Medical Oncology-Hematology Dual Certification Pathway. Additional 6 months of clinical training in non-malignant hematology only to obtain Hematology certification.
